Who should take this course?

If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. To enroll in a SSI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.  Check this meidical form to see if you can take open water, after reading it call us if you have questions.

The SSI Open Water course is broken into three phases.

Phase 1 - 
This is completed by reading the SSI material online.  Follow this link to sign up and complete at your leisure.  SSI Online sign up.  Set up your profile, start reading the open water course.  Complete your course work at our store.

Phase 2 - Pool Session: You will learn to master the skills you have read about in elearning.  In this phase you will be provided a regulator, BCD, cylinder, weights and wetsuit to use in the pool.  You will need to provide mask, fins, snorkel and boots that is scuba quality.  We offer the different packages as well as you can mix and match a set.  This phase is offered in group lessons or private lessons

Phase 3 - Open Water Dives: You will complete four open water dives in which you demonstrate your skills either locally with us or complete on one of our trips, or you can receive a referral to a SSI Dive Resort to complete on your own 

Southern Indiana Scuba offers these phases separately allowing for a more  flexible schedule and additional cost savings for referrals.

You can enroll in the pool course by contacting us or stopping by the store or purchasing from our online store. Your SSI Instructor will schedule time with you to check your progress and make sure you understand important scuba diving information.

What Equipment will you use?

In the SSI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use your basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, and boots as well as our regulator, buoyancy control device and a cylinder.
